So I guess my parents messed up and had a normal kid. Ok, I'm throughly weird, but not weird enough to believe any of the bat-shit craziness my Dad and Mom get from Faux News. As you probably guessed, I'm liberal, dur. Actually, I'm pretty balls out liberal. So, there you have it.My parents are Neo-cons to the point of not giving a shit about human life. It's really christian of them? Oh, and I'm also an athiest (not really a liberal thing, just throwing it out there. Some huge conservative douchebags are atheists.) and that leads to a yelling matches at Thanksgiving. So, it's nice to be in a community with sane people from insane families. Or if you're insane BUT liberal, that's cool too.
*waves* Hello! :)I remember how it felt being an athiest at a Catholic school... (My parents were fortunately reasonably left-wing, so that was never a huge issue like it was for ya) so I get you on that feeling. My parents are Neo-cons to the point of not giving a shit about human life.Ouch. (I'm tempted to ask if they're anti-abortion, too, because I've seen people like that- they hate everyone, yet they're all "Don't kill fetuses!!!" which is really bizarre.) Some huge conservative douchebags are atheistsAyn Rand. :/ Pity, because I love her writing. On the flipside, I know some lovely lefty Christian types who don't think Jesus hated gay people and that picketing Family Planning Clinics is a fun way to spend an afternoon.
LJ ate my response. But anyways. Thanks for the welcome. My family is catholic on both sides, so I can relate on that. I went to church till I was in college on my own. I was afraid of my neo-con parents for a while. Then they found out on their own and treat me like shit now and tell me how I'll burn forever. True christian love. :-p.They are the typical "don't kill em' till they're older" types. Ayn Rand writes some cool shit. Then, she'll talk about how bad gay people are. Oh well. Those christian types sound nice. This is basically bullet points of a huge response I had. Damn LJ.
Hey! :)It's a shit that LJ ate your response. :/ I know how that feels. :/Ayn Rand writes some cool shit. Then, she'll talk about how bad gay people are. Oh wellThe Fountainhead is probably my favourite book EVER. The funny thing is, though, all the time I was reading it, I kept thinking that there was some major homoerotic subtext- particularly between Roark and Keating. (But also Rorach/Wynard.) It shocked the hell out of me to see some speech she made about "gay people suck." It was like when all these slash writers came out and said that they were anti gay marriage. Just... odd. And I feel for you copping the whole "black sheep" thing from your family. I'd be severely weirded out if my kids became hardcore right-wingers, and I suppose it would be a challenge trying to deal with it- but I wouldn't be too arseholey on them. Unless they became out-and-out hate group people or something. Anyway- hi- and welcome and stuff. :)
